STANDARDS FOR TMTR APPROVED TRAINERS

TEXAS MEDIATOR TRAINERS ROUNDTABLE – Approved Trainer Criteria

Applicants seeking the status of Approved Trainer from the TMTR must provide email the following to [email protected]:
  1. Evidence of completion of a 40-Hour Basic Mediation Training that complies with TMTR standards. Applicants are responsible for providing the training outline/content for courses not offered by TMTR Approved Trainers. Individuals who were trained in courses not designed for qualified mediators in Texas also need to provide evidence of completion of an approved Texas-specific (4 hour) course from a TMTR Approved Trainer.  Preferred “evidence” is a certificate of training or, in the absence of a certificate, sufficient written documentation to allow the TMTR Approval Committee to make a decision regarding the application.

  2. Documentation of mediation experience. Minimum of 3 years practice as a mediator and conducted 25 mediations as a mediator.

  3.  A degree or graduate academic certificate from an accredited college or university or written evidence of experience with specialized training in adult education.

  4. Training materials and outlines (updated every 2 years) for basic, family, and/or Texas- specific mediation trainings provided, signed “TMTR Assessment of Compliance” form for trainings provided, and a signed “Course Conformance Affirmation” form.

  5. A current dues paying member of TMTR having been active and TMTR attended a minimum of two (2) meetings a year over a minimum of one year of membership at the time of application.

  6. Evidence of a minimum of fifteen (15) hours of professional continuing education (updated annually) in mediation, negotiation, conflict management, and/or adult education annually.

The standards above apply to individuals seeking the status of Approved Trainer.

To maintain TMTR Approved Trainer Status:
  1.  Pay current TMTR member dues.

  2. Attend a minimum of two (2) TMTR meetings a year.

  3. Attend annually a minimum of fifteen (15) hours of professional continuing education in mediation, negotiation, conflict management, and/or adult education (including, TAM, TMTR, TMCA, Texas CLE, and other professional organizations).

Only Approved Trainers will be allowed to use the designation TMTR Approved Trainer and to publicize trainings on the TMTR website.

TMTR reserves the right to waive selected criteria for certain individuals who have a history of adherence to TMTR training standards and of integrity within the mediation profession, generally, and within the mediation training community, specifically.  Requests for waivers can be sent to [email protected] and will be discussed at the next scheduled Executive Board meeting.  Please note that since waiver approvals require Board approval, they will take longer to process.

Membership dues for TMTR Approved Trainers are $150 per year.
Copy this email [email protected] to send your $150.00 dues by Zelle or PayPal to pay your TMTR annual membership dues. Or mail a check to:
TMTR, 21 Briar Hollow Lane, Suite 508, Houston, TX 77027

TMTR Approved Trainers are also TMTR Members. The $150.00 annual dues for TMTR Approved Trainers includes the $30.00 annual dues required for TMTR Members who are not approved trainers. TMTR Approved Trainers may submit information about their training courses for listing on the TMTR Training Calendars - this is an important marketing advantage!

If you have any questions or need an invoice, please call or text the TMTR Treasurer at (713) 557-1010.

TMTR Approved Trainer and Training Calendar Listing Policy:

TMTR Approved Trainers are individual people who are TMTR members. A TMTR Approved Trainer may be associated with an organization and, TMTR allows TMTR Trainers to list their organization on TMTR.org.

A TMTR Approved Trainer may list a new organization on the TMTR.org list of TMTR Approved Trainers only if the TMTR Approved Trainer affirms that they are the lead trainer for that organization, affirms that the training by that organization meets TMTR standards, and submits a curriculum of such training to TMTR. Each TMTR Approved Trainer who wishes to have more than one organization shown on the TMTR.org list of TMTR Approved Trainers shall have only one listing of their name along with multiple organization names in the same listing.

If there is more than one TMTR Approved Trainer associated with an organization, then there may be a separate listing for that organization provided that there are no more listings than the number of TMTR Approved Trainers. For example, if Trainer A and Trainer B are both associated with Organization 1 and with Organization 2, then both organizations may have a separate listing.

A TMTR Approved Trainer may list a training by a new organization on the online TMTR Training Calendars only if the TMTR Approved Trainer affirms that they are the lead trainer for that training, affirms that the training by that organization meets TMTR standards, and submits a curriculum of such training to TMTR.
